CinemaScope 12/14

The Earth Stands still at the box office-
This weekend saw the remake of ‘The Day the Earth Stood Still” starring Keanu Reeves and Jennifer Connolly take the box office crown with 31 Million dollars. Only one other movie made over 10 Million and that was Four Christmases which is now just under 90 Million total for the holiday flick. The only other new release this week was Nothing like the Holidays starring John Leguizamo only taking in 3.5 Million.

4. Bolt – 7.5 Million (3)

Next week two big stars have films coming out, Will Smith has Seven Pounds coming out which has Smith as a man who will change the lives of seven people. Also Jim Carrey has Yes Man coming out which has Carrey starring as a man who signs up for a self help class and instructs him to say yes to everything.

Twilight Sequel: New Moon has a new director –

Yesterday Summit Entertainment confirmed that there is a new director and his name is Chris Weitz who has directed the Golden Compass. The next film in the Twilight series is expected to come out in late 2009 or spring 2010. To read the whole press release from Summit, click here.

Wolverine to host the Oscars?-
News came down earlier this week that Hugh Jackman is going to host the upcoming 81st Academy Awards to much surprise. It should definitely make for an interesting show and hopefully the first in a move towards younger and more popular hosts to the show.

Frank Miller Talks 300 and Sin City 2 – 
Superhero Hype had a great discussion with Frank Miller about possible 300 and Sin City sequels. He let something out about how he hopes to work with Robert Rodriguez again for Sin City 2 and that although Mickey Rourke said he doesn’t know if he’ll come back Frank hopes he does since Marv has a big part in Sin City 2. Small News Bits – 

The Dark Knight breaks Blu-Ray record – 
The Dark Knight came out on DVD on Tuesday and sold 600,000 Blu Ray copies in its first day and is expected to hit 1 Million when the final numbers come out on Tuesday.

A new Nightmare – 
Shock Till You Drop talked to Brad Fuller who is along with Michael Bay trying to get “A Nightmare on Elm Street” remade. According to Fuller they will start shooting in the spring. Get the whole story and whether or not Robert Englund will be back over at Shocktillyoudrop.com

Couture joins The Expendables – 
Stallone’s next film “The Expendables” which already has a huge group of stars which include himself, Jet-Li and Jason Statham, now has added UFC superstar Randy Couture to the action flick which could be a huge hit when it comes out.

Terminator Salvation Trailer –
The full trailer for Terminator: Salvation is now out and it looks good. Christian Bale and Sam Worthington star in the next chapter in the Terminator story as the future war is now here and things have changed. Click here to check out the trailer.

Dragonball Evolution Trailer – 
The Japanese anime Dragonball Z has finally made it to the big screen and recently undergone a title change from Dragonball to Dragonball Evolution. Click here for the new international trailer courtesy of IGN.com

Knowing Trailer – 
Earlier in the fall a teaser for Nicholas Cage’s new film Knowing was released but earlier this week a full trailer came out and it gives a better explanation of the plot of the film. Click here to check it out.

Wolverine Trailer – 
The Day the Earth Stood Still came out on Friday and it was the only place to see the new trailer for X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The official site has came up and on Monday night the trailer will officially be put online so you can bet we will have it up headlining our videos of the week next Sunday.
